Wow, what a day!
It is the weekend. Blue skies and light breezes were perfect for our wine tour of Constantia. Less than 20 minutes away from platinum guesthouse you can wine and dine to your heart’s content, tasting some of the best wines South Africa has to offer. Being Australian, we also have some of the world’s greatest wines, but I am absolutely amazed at how good the SA wine is. Totally under-rated and very reasonably priced!
My pick was Groot Constantia, the oldest wine estate in South Africa and definitely one of the finest. The Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blancs are to die for. Match your wine to your palate whilst devouring typical Cape Malay cuisine at the Jonkershuis restaurant. Steenberg and Klein Constantia were also amongst my favourites.
I didn’t know the area was also rich in historical importance. Even Napoleon Bonaparte enjoyed what the area’s ‘terroir’ and climate had produced. However, the grapes themselves were enough to draw my attention.
Next time I will bring a picnic blanket and anti-pasta. They are the perfect company for all the wines I bought!!!
