Constantia was the first South African wine region
Constantia was established in 1679 by Commander Simon van der Stel of the Dutch East India Company. Located on the slopes of Table Mountain, the region quickly developed developed a worldwide reputation for excellence. Constantia is well known for Constantia wyn (wine), a South African dessert wine. This wine is made from Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains (Muscat de Frontignan) grapes.
The original Constantia vineyard was split into two unique vineyards, Groot Constantia and Klein Constantia. Today Groot Constantia is one of the leading tourist destinations for those interested in wines and beautiful landscapes.
Our personal preference is for the unique, smaller estates. Steenberg Farm with Bistro 1682 is our recommendation for a vineyard in Constantia Valley.
